Web Design for your Business
Many people think that a polished website is created by talented and educated web design professionals. And those people would be right.
But, that doesn't mean that a small start-up business can't have a pleasing and functional website. Web design is the process of planning and creating a website using text, images, digital media and programming elements. Web designers shape and rearrange these features to get the webpage people see when surfing the web using a web browser.
Web Design for a Purpose
Web Design Process
As with any good business component, web design works in stages. Conceptualization, planning and research often occur before any code is written. Once the website is up and running, there are often post-production tweaks to fix any problems found during use. The number of pages on a website varies. Smaller businesses with fewer products won't need as many pages. Typically, there is a home page, also called a landing page. That is the first page visitors see when clicking on the website. There is usually an About Us and/or Contact Us page with information about the business and founders, plus contact information. Then, there are as many more pages as necessary to describe and sell each product and/or service offered. Shopping carts and online stores are also options that increase sales and reach a larger potential customer base, but these options usually cost more.
Web Design Is Worth It
It's a digital world where people come to expect the ability to peruse products at any time, day or night. Websites allow interested consumers to research products without the pressure from sales people or phone calls. Plus, a website reaches far more potential customers than generic radio spots or even signage. With social media networking in play, the exposure a business could receive through word-of-mouth (or word-of-mouse, so to speak) is exponential.
Web design is as important to a business plan as a road sign or advertising. With ready-made templates available or contracted work with a freelance web designer, there are options to fit every business's budget and owner's IT comfort level. The amount of time and money invested in web design will be recouped in future sales.
